Your journalism training at BCIT is unlike any you’ll get anywhere else. From your first week, you’ll be gaining hands-on experience and learning the skills it takes to become a well-rounded and versatile journalist.

Through this program, you’ll develop interviewing skills and announcing techniques, hone your writing, gain expertise and creativity in multimedia production and learn how to deliver compelling stories that connect with people. All your courses and industry internships, are designed to give you the ability and confidence to start and succeed in your journalism career.

BCIT Magazine

Our in-house 30min television program that is planned, filmed, edited, and produced by our students.  Students have multiple work periods being part of the show and get to experience different roles in television news and production.

Evolution 107.9

BCIT is proud to host Canada’s only FM student-run radio station, Evolution 107.9 Students are live on the air for news casts, live reports, stories, radio interviews and even some longer form documentaries.

In this digital age, being well-versed in cross-platform multimedia content is the key to success. Our digital newsroom gives students the opportunity to explore their skills and creativity through articles, video and graphic content, social media, and even longer form digital documentary making.

Industry Experience

One of the most valued assets to employers in the media industry is work experience. Our program provides students with multiple internship periods to attain that necessary experience and make invaluable industry connections.  Students can whatever they are interested in and test the waters of the industry.

We have a very active industry advisory committee that keeps our program up-to-date and mentors our second year students in industry rotations throughout the year.
