It was a familiar sight for Whitecaps Midfielder Alphonso Davies, playing in front of a packed crowd at BC Place. However, what wasn’t regular was the atmosphere, as this would be the 17-year old’s final game for Vancouver that took him in at just 15 years old

“You know playing my final games here they just wanted to give me the ball as much as possible and do what I do. I couldn’t thank them more for pushing me everyday in training, and off the field as well teaching me all the professional habits.” – Whitecaps Midfielder, Alphonso Davies

Davies scored two goals in his final MLS game that led the Whitecaps past the Portland Timbers. The Bayern Munich transfer netted his first goal just 28 minutes into the game, then proceeded to score again three minutes after. The sold out crowd at BC Place erupted after each goal as fans and teammates cheered on “Phonzie”. After the game Davies thanked his Vancouver teammates for their support throughout his MLS career.

Throughout the game, the hashtag FarewellPhonzie was shared through the stadium with everyone getting a chance to thank Davies for his time with the club. Acting coach Craig Dalrymple, noted some of the best qualities the teen superstar brought to the club.

“He just has knack to continue to prove people right. To score two goals, should’ve maybe had three or four. He’s electric, he had energy in the game, he wanted to thank everyone with his performance.” -Whitecaps acting coach, Craig Dalrymple
