Police announced the man was arrested Thursday morning in connection with groping incidents reported by seven women stretching back to December 2019.

Investigators haven’t named the suspect, citing privacy concerns and mitigating factors they believe “may have played a role” in the alleged attacks.

“There are extenuating circumstances involving this suspect,” said Corporal Michael McLaughlin, who cautioned residents that, “[i]t’s not helpful to draw conclusions about motive without all the facts.”

The only detail RCMP have confirmed is that the suspect was previously unknown to police.

RCMP first warned the public after four area women said they were grabbed from behind by a thin, slightly-built man who ran away before they could see his face. Three more women came forward on Wednesday.

All seven women told police they were walking alone, in or near Glen Park, at the time of alleged assaults.

“There are extenuating circumstances involving this suspect that may have played a role in these alleged assaults…[Due] to privacy concerns, we cannot go into detail…but everyone should know that public safety is our number one priority.”     Corporal Michael McLaughlin, Coquitlam RCMP
