Vancouver is known for being one of the loneliest cities in the world. For Christmas this year, new Vancouverite Brad Lancaster is trying to change that narrative for the holiday season.

“We want to inspire people even on a small scale to open up their homes and be like hey maybe my family can reach out and see if there’s anybody who is alone and then invite 1 or 2 or 3 people to come to [their] house.”

Lancaster created a Reddit post inviting any users with nowhere else to go to come to a free Christmas dinner, in an effort to create a sense of community for those who need it most.

“There’s so many people in your individual community that you don’t know are alone and you could impact their life and make their whole day a little bit better.”

The idea has received a huge amount of support, with donations pouring in from individuals and grocery stores hoping to help foster some real holiday spirit.
