The Canadian Elite Basketball League is Canada’s first professional basketball organization and with the inaugural season already played out, the league is looking to develop further. And establish a presence in the North American basketball market.

John Lashway, President of the Hamilton Honey badgers worked in the National Basketball Association for the Portland Trail Blazers and the Toronto Raptors, he feels the CEBL will start and progress at the same pace as the Raptors.

“It took the Raptors four years to develop and I feel it will be the same with the CEBL”

For the CEBL talent wasn’t an issue, a lot of players who play in the CEBL summer league are NBA G-league players.

The CEBL only has one season completed, and business is successful. Ottawa is the latest city to acquire a franchise, pushing the league to eight teams.

The Canadian Football league have had recent struggles as players have gone to social media to address their concerns about low salaries. Meanwhile Lashway feels CEBL players are compensated a fair wage, a livable wage that can help players provide for themselves and their families.

The goal for CEBL is to develop a Canadian basketball market, that can compete with the NBA.
