For the Record – We need to focus on the solution: Green Party candidate for Burnaby-South on climate action

Laurie Tritschler – October 15th, 2019

Green Party candidate Brennan Wauters (pronounced ‘waters’) is running for Parliament in the riding of Burnaby-South. Days away from the 2019 federal election, Wauters says he  wants to focus Canadians’ attention on the climate crisis and to shift the policy discourse on climate action from adversarial politics toward science and logic. “That’s just as important as winning,” says Wauters.

Wauters is frustrated by Canada’s first-past-the-post electoral system, which he says sets  political parties farther apart when it comes to managing the climate crisis.

“We need to decide how we’re going to approach the solution…And, the electoral-system that we’re provided feeds a sense that we are in opposition to each other. So, there’s been a lot bickering between the Greens and the NDP. There’s considerable amount of bickering between the Liberals and the Conservatives.”
