Harry Jones of Team Canada
(World Rugby)

On today’s For The Record, my guest is Harry Jones, a veteran player on Canada’s national mens rugby sevens team.

The team just played its sixth leg of the 2018-19 World Rugby Sevens Series on home soil in Vancouver, but is also looking ahead to July when they will be involved in an Olympic qualifying tournament.

Jones was on the national team four years ago when his squad failed to qualify for the Olympics in Rio. As the team eyes earning their berth for Tokyo 2020, Jones said they are in a better position than four years ago.

Along with a new coach and system, Jones feels that the ultimate they will be successful in qualifying will come down to team chemistry and familiarity.

“It will be different this time around because we will just be keeping our core group of players, which I think is going to benefit us. The guys that have gelled together all year will put us in the best position to qualify.” – Harry Jones, National Rugby Sevens Player
