Sentence Hearing for Humboldt Crash Truck Driver

The sentencing hearing for 30 year old Jaskirat Singh Sidhu starts today in Melfort, Saskatchewan. The hearing will take place over the next five days, as families and loved ones will make their impact statements to the courtroom.

Sidhu plead guilty to 13 counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm and 16 counts of dangerous driving causing death.

Each sentencing of dangerous driving causing death carries a penalty 14 years in prison while each count of dangerous driving causing bodily harm has a penalty of 10 years.

Canadian man arrested in China

A 61 year old man stands accused of trying to defraud an unnamed entertainment company out of $375 million. He is currently detained in China awaiting trial.

He joins a list of Canadians that are currently being detained or arrested in China as tensions escalate between the two countries.

The current conflict began after Canadian authorities arrested Huawei executive Meng Wanzhou on an extradition request from the United States where she is accused of violating US sanctions against Iran.

Robbery at holistic store leaves one man injured

Vancouver Police are investigating a robbery at Stepping Stone Holistic Living store, on Kingsway where a suspect opened fire and injured a bystander.

The 32 year old bystander who was shot, has been transported to the hospital for treatment.

The two suspects both fled the scene after the robbery and have not yet been caught.
