Dr. Julio Montaner, the Director of the British Columbia Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS, talks about Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy (HAART), a therapy that’s used to treat HIV.
Dr. Montaner says there are about 12,000 people with HIV in British Columbia, and 8,000 of them are on the treatment. The government spends about $15,000 per year on each patient. However, the treatment is cost-effective.
