You may soon be able to park for free for 2 hours near the Surrey Memorial Hospital and the Surrey city hall. The city operates 103 pay-parking spots on the streets in the immediate vicinity of the hospital and 827 spaces near the city hall. Today, city councillors are voting on whether to offer theses spaces free of charge for a maximum or two hours.
Eliminating pay parking on the streets around the Surrey Memorial Hospital was a campaign promise of Surrey’s new mayor, Doug McCallum.
But not all Surrey residents are in favour of the proposed changes. One local community advocate shows his reaction in a tweet:
A report by the city says the implementation of the plan will reduce the city’s annual revenue by $850,000.
There are an additional 2,041 off-street parking spaces in the area adjacent to the city-owned on-street parking spots that are operated by Fraser Health or private companies. The report also states the City will target those next.
