BCLC has approved to build a new gambling and entertainment facility in the City of Delta.

The site of the Delta Town & Country Inn will be the home of the Cascades Casino Delta, operated by Gateway Casinos & Entertainment Limited. The project will include a hotel, restaurants, meeting space and a casino consisting of 500 slot machines, 24 table games and six electronic table games. Construction will begin in early 2019 with the casino expected to open in 2020.

The final approval of the project was decided by the Delta city council earlier this year. The council chose the location of the Delta Town and Country Inn due to the site being away from residential areas and accessible to major transportation connectors.

The official Gateway Casinos website states that the project is expected to create up to 700 new jobs in Delta. According to a memo at a public hearing for the City of Delta it was noted that the $70 million Gateway Casinos project will give 10 per cent of its gambling profits to the city which the casino expects to be between $1.5 million and $3 million annually.

“Overall, taking into account all of the submissions, I am unable to conclude that Richmond has demonstrated it will incur significant costs as a result of the proposed casino.” – Simon Margolis, Mediator

The City of Richmond that shares a municipal border with Delta has filed an objection with the BCLC expressing concerns for crime, traffic and transportation.

On October 15, BCLC received a report by Mr. Simon Margolis which stated that the City of Richmond’s complaints were not supported by any documentation that proved its concerns were substantial. This gave the BCLC the opportunity to finalize the approval of the Cascades Casino Delta project.
