RCMP say that a shooting incident in Mission has resulted in the death of 19-year-old Varinderpal Gill.

The shooting took place Wednesday, Oct. 3 around 9pm in the parking lot of Junction Mall.

Gill was declared dead on scene by emergency services. He was found in a black pickup truck with visible bullet holes on the side.

“This was a brazen shooting in a busy shopping complex and those responsible showed absolutely no regard for human life.  Fortunately, no one else was hurt from this incident.” – Corporal Frank Jang, IHIT

Abbotsford Police believe a burning SUV found in Bateman Park Thursday morning is related to the shooting.

IHIT suspects this was a targeted incident as Gill was known to police. The Abbotsford Police issued a public warning in August that Gill was a threat to public safety.

One man seen with Gill the night of the incident has been put in custody but has not been charged.
